White Lick Monthly Meeting/Mooresville Friends Church is one of the oldest churches in Mooresville and in Morgan County. Listed below are important dates in the life of our meeting/church.

Historical Highlights

Timeline – 200 years

1823 – White Lick Monthly Meeting (Mooresville) set off from

           White Lick Quarterly Meeting (Blue River /Lick Creek Meetings)

             Indiana Yearly Meeting 1823-1858 

             Western Yearly Meeting 1858 to present.

1823 – Log Cabin with graveyard in Hendricks County on what was Miles farm

1826 – White Lick Cemetery established

1827 – Brick Meeting House near what is now White Lick Cemetery on McCracken’s Creek

1840 – First regular committee on education established

1847 – Sunday School established

1861 – Academy Building built

1864 – current 5.25 acres purchased for $450

1869 – first appearance of music in a meeting

1870 – Academy Building sold to Mooresville Schools

1870 – Present meeting house was built

1871 – first meeting in current building

1880 – First expansion of current building

1881 – Friends Women’s Foreign Missionary Society established. 

             (forerunner of today’s USFW)

1889 – Ladies Aid established (or 1898 depending on source of information)

1889 – First joint (men and women) sessions of Monthly Meetings started

1890 – First paid minister

1893 – center partition removed

1893 – First choir organized

1893 – First organ purchased by Christian Endeavor

1898 – Ladies Aid established (or 1889 depending on source of information)

1903 – Building remodeled and center partition removed

1915 – Men and Boy’s Brotherhood organized (or 1914 depending on source of information)

1923 – Centennial Celebration

1942 – kitchen and dining room constructed in basement

1947 – First electric organ purchased

1955 – Two story educational wing constructed with new kitchen,

dining room Sunday School room and stage areas – dedicated Oct. 30, 1955

1959 – choir loft added

1968 – Friendship House constructed

1980s – south stairs added to educational wing

1991 – Parsonage built

1993 – front ramp built

1997 – Mooresville Friends Church added to name

2010 – Nursery relocated and updated

2012 – narthex and electrical system updated

2020 – video/sound system updated to allow streaming

2023 – 200 years celebrated
